1 John 1: 5-10 (ESV)
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Takeaways/Application:
Do you affirm scripture that there is no wrong or darkness in God? Or do you believe that
He can’t be all true about what He did and who He is.
What are specific things in your life you may believe God is purposely hiding or keeping
from you that alter his being in your mind.
Unconfessed and unrepentant sin enslaves you to fellowship with darkness. Having heard
that God is light will you truly repent and walk in the light and have fellowship with Him?
Do you confess and repent of sin daily? Monthly? Yearly? Never? Your awareness of sin
may reveal how close your fellowship with God truly is.
What does your fellowship with God ultimately look like after today? Has it changed you in
the past or are you still the same?
Fellowship with God should lead to repentance which should cause actual change and
genuine sanctification to be seen and felt among others.
Do you believe that you are wiser than God and that he lies about your sin and need for a
savior?
